Day 6 – Lordship, Not Language
Luke 6:46 (KJV)
“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”
There is a difference between recognizing who Jesus is and allowing Him to actually lead your life.
It is possible to use the right language.
To say the right things.
To declare truths about Him that are completely accurate.
And yet still remain in control.
Jesus is not confronting ignorance in this verse. He is confronting inconsistency.
“Why call ye me, Lord, Lord…”
The word “Lord” implies authority. It speaks of ownership, of governance, of surrender. It is not a casual title. It is a declaration that someone else now has the right to direct your life.
“…and do not the things which I say?”
This is where the tension lives.
Because it reveals that Lordship is not proven by what we say, but by what we obey.
It is easy to agree with Jesus in principle.
It is far more difficult to align with Him in practice.
There are areas where His voice is clear. Not confusing. Not hidden. Clear.
Forgive.
Let go.
Speak truth.
Walk in purity.
Trust Him.
Surrender control.
Yet often the hesitation is not because we do not understand. It is because obedience requires yielding something we still want to hold onto.
Control.
Comfort.
Pride.
Hurt.
Fear.
Lordship will always confront these things.
Because if He is truly Lord, then His voice carries more weight than your preferences. His direction overrides your reasoning. His will becomes the standard, not your feelings.
This is where many people unintentionally reduce their relationship with God to language instead of life.
They say “Lord,” but they negotiate.
They say “Lord,” but they delay.
They say “Lord,” but they selectively obey.
And over time, a dangerous pattern forms, one where spiritual vocabulary increases, but surrender does not.
But Jesus is not after your vocabulary. He is after your heart.
True Lordship is not loud. It is consistent.
It shows up in the quiet decisions no one else sees.
It shows up in immediate obedience when He speaks.
It shows up in choosing His way when it costs you something.
It is not about perfection. It is about posture.
A heart that says, “If You said it, I will align with it.”
Today is an invitation to move beyond language.
Not to stop declaring Him as Lord, but to allow that declaration to carry its full weight.
Ask yourself honestly:
Where is He speaking that I am not aligning?
Where have I heard but not responded?
Where have I agreed, but not obeyed?
Do not rush past those questions.
Because transformation does not happen in what you acknowledge.
It happens in what you obey.
And the beauty of this moment is not condemnation, it is opportunity.
Every place of misalignment is an invitation back into alignment.
Every delayed response can become immediate obedience.
Every area of resistance can become surrender.
Lordship is not proven in a moment. It is lived out daily.
One decision at a time.
One act of obedience at a time.
One surrendered response at a time.
And as you do, something shifts.
Jesus is no longer just the One you believe in.
He becomes the One who truly leads you.
Prayer Focus:
Lord, I surrender fully. Not in words only, but in obedience. Teach me to respond quickly when You speak. Let my life reflect Your Lordship in every area.
